Since a trip to China in 2018, I noticed that I tend to fall a lot less sick; and when I do, it tends to be very light and goes within a few days.
This trip inspired me to adopt a very simple new habit: drinking warm water first thing in the morning, and throughout the day!

All of my colleagues at work find it so awkward when I refuse tea/ coffee and go for a mug of warm water instead. That might look very odd to you too.
In other parts of the world however, it is an obvious habit. Office spaces in China are equipped with a hot water dispenser, and it falls naturally to stick to this beverage all day long.
This is also a habit that is strongly grounded in India. In fact, in Ayurveda, it is recommended to start the day with a few cups of hot water, empty stomach.
What are the benefits of drinking hot water?
Hot water has the power to cleanse your digestive system in a gentle and purifying way. A few cups in the morning help flushing out the toxins and other waste products. Besides, warm water also stimulates better circulation in your body. Digestion and assimilation of food will improve, as will your elimination.

Why on the contrary drinking ice cold water is one of the worst thing you can do to your body? Cold water slows down digestion. Low digestion can result in incompletely digested food residing in your gut, that lead to the formation of toxins. If you allow them to continue to build up, that can lead to illness long term.
